|
_
Ebert wrote a review of Dream Theater's induction into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame

March 24, 2010 - Sachem Patch posts story citing Ebert
|
_
Sachem Patch posted an article about Lake Ronkonkoma today that
quotes Ebert and includes
information provided by him. The
1,000-word article – written by Jenna Glatzer – discusses the
lake's legends such as
the ghost of an Indian princess that allegedly drowns male swimmers
and the
lake's uncanny tendency to rise and fall in cyclical patterns, among other things.
"After Ebert's college graduation, he searched for more information about the lake's legends in
local history books, but found little – which convinced him to write
his own book," the story said.
"He spent about six months visiting libraries and the Lake Ronkonkoma Historical Society
to research articles, maps and geographical studies dating back to the early 1900s."

March 25, 2008 - Ebert part of team to win IRE
certificate
|
_
Ebert is part of an 11-person Newsday team to win
a 2007 certificate from Investigative Reporters
and Editors (IRE), Inc., a grassroots nonprofit organization
dedicated to improving the quality of
investigative reporting. The award recognized the
newspaper's coverage of the Long Island
Rail Road's continued gap problems, which entered
the spotlight in 2006 after 18-year-old
Natalie
Smead of Minnesota fell between the train and platform in Woodside and died.
Entitled "They Failed to Act," the 24-page report was published
on Jan. 19, 2007.
In making their selection, IRE judges said: "Through tenacious shoe-leather
reporting, the staff
of Newsday documented a danger long ignored by the Long Island Rail Road and
by state and
federal regulators. Armed with Stanley tape measures, they found dangerous
gaps between
the platform and trains at the railroad's
busiest stations, holes large enough for passengers
to fall through. Their reporting
— accompanied by compelling visuals — brought a
public outcry and led to long-overdue
reforms."

March 18, 2008 - Lake Ronkonkoma's curse still brings interest
|
_
Earlier this week, Ebert provided four new editions of "The Curse Of Lake
Ronkonkoma" to the
Connetquot Public Library at the director's
request. Since it's completion in 2002, the text has
been widely read by local residents and students intrigued by the legends of Long Island's
largest lake. To write it, Ebert researched
old newspaper clippings and maps at the Lake
Ronkonkoma Historical Society and compiled all available info into a story form.
Previously, there was no comprehensive text on the topic.
However, please remember that more recent research and info is
available on the lake's legends.
One prime example is a segment aired on the History Channel's "Weird U.S."
show in 2005.
